Vitamin C is a wonder ingredient you want to be incorporating into your skincare routine. It’s a game-changer that can transform your skin overnight. Whether you’re looking to reverse the passage of time or brighten dull-looking skin, vitamin C is the ingredient you’re looking for. Whatever your skincare concerns are, you can benefit from adding a vitamin C serum to your routine. The key to getting the most out of your vitamin C serum is to know how to apply it. We’re giving you a rundown of everything you need to know about vitamin C and how to apply it as a serum.
At Timeless Skincare, the 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum is the go-to treatment product that we swear by. We love it so much and it is nicknamed “The Brightener” for its ability to rejuvenate dull-looking skin and give it a natural glow. Our vitamin C serum is fragrance-free, making it suitable for sensitive skin. The formula is paraben-free – and best of all, it’s cruelty-free as well!
When it comes to using your vitamin C serum, it should be the third step of your skincare routine. You want to kick off your routine by using a cleanser and toner to remove impurities from your skin to allow it to better absorb vitamin C and other active ingredients in your serum.
Due to our high concentration of L-ascorbic acid, we recommend starting with a smaller amount of serum until your skin becomes used to it. As it also contains vitamin E, you’ll want to use only a pea-size amount if you have oily skin. Your skin will naturally become acclimatised to vitamin C and other active ingredients over time. If you notice any irritation, use a little less serum.
If you think your skin could react to vitamin C, you can do a patch test on a part of your skin that is easy to conceal. If you don’t spot any irritation after 24 hours, you should be good to go!
You can use your vitamin C serum for both your morning and evening routine, although we recommend starting with your morning routine and eventually adding your evening routine later. You can still benefit from using vitamin C once a day, especially if you’re using it to brighten your skin, instead of as an anti-ageing serum.
Once you’ve applied your vitamin C serum, you can layer it with other facial oils and serums, including AHAs and retinol. You want to lock in your serums with a moisturiser to give you maximum results and to help your skin absorb the active ingredients.
You need to give your vitamin C serum some TLC. Keep it in a cool and dark place to help extend its lifespan by limiting the oxidative process that naturally occurs with vitamin C products. For the maximum results, you want to use your vitamin C serum within 3 months of your purchase. Keeping your serum refrigerated can extend its life span to six months.
